Creative Brief
The Situation
Autumn Lodge in Hove provides care for residents with dementia. Initially, they relied on a single consumer-grade internet connection in their office, but as their needs grew, it became clear that an expanded network was essential for both staff and residents. Recognising this, they reached out to our Apple Business Support team. Additionally, they wanted to provide piped audio and wireless access throughout the entire building. We seized this opportunity to completely overhaul their network infrastructure, ensuring it was future-proofed for easy expansion.
The Solution
The owners of Autumn Lodge opted for a Virgin Media Fibre Optic connection to meet the bandwidth demands of their site, as BT could not offer a competitive solution in terms of price or performance. The existing BT Infinity connection was retained, and using a pfSense router, we aggregated both connections to deliver over 300Mbps of bandwidth. This setup also provided a failover option in the event of a telecoms failure.
We recommended and implemented the Ubiquiti UniFi Wireless system, which included a 24-port switch, security gateway, and a cloud key for remote access. The wireless infrastructure, along with piped audio, was installed by an external contractor. Once installed, we configured the wireless network into two partitions, ensuring guests could freely access the internet without interacting with Autumn Lodge's internal network.
The Results
The result is a robust network foundation that can be easily upgraded or expanded in the future. The network can now be managed remotely, eliminating the need for our Apple Support Team to be on site, enabling us to resolve any issues more quickly and efficiently.
What We Did
We upgraded Autumn Lodge’s network infrastructure to meet their expanding needs by integrating a Virgin Media Fibre Optic connection with their existing BT Infinity line, providing over 300Mbps bandwidth and a failover option. We implemented the Ubiquiti UniFi Wireless system, enabling remote management and partitioned access for guests and internal use. This setup allows for future upgrades, ensures reliability, and enables our team to resolve issues quickly without needing to be on-site.
